The iPhone Didn’t Fail (Obviously)

It happens pretty much whenever Apple decides to release a new iPhone model (or models). Some dufus will dig up that old Engadget post of mine (from 2007, btw)  where I wrote about another dude’s opinion of the then brand new iPhone. In short, he predicted it would fail.

Not my opinion. His.

Still, people think it’s some sort of “gotcha” on me and hurry over here or on Reddit or wherever and talk about how dumb I was for saying it would fail. I guess they have a lot of free time and also don’t bother to read. I get it.

Let me explain a bit. In the “old days” of the Internet we had these things called Blogs (like what you’re reading here). Sometimes on these blogs we’d link to an article posted somewhere written by someone else and comment or give our own take on the subject and the article. This was one of those times.

So, I was quoting an article written by someone else and offering commentary on the other person’s opinion. An opinion I did not and do not share.

That happened a lot “back in the day.” We also tended to use “click bait’ headlines (like the one above), which helped drive traffic to our site. It worked. In fact, we kinda invented that technique. Sorry about that.

As for me, I’ve been an Apple fan for years and currently use an iPhone 15 Pro. I’ve also had about six or more previous versions all the way back to the absolute first one, which I waited in line for at the Sherman Oaks, CA Apple Store. I wrote a post about that too.

We had to post often in those days or we didn’t get paid.

I doubt this will do much to clear up the confusion, but I thought it would be good to at least give it a try. Maybe it’ll work? Let’s hope.

New Home, Same Stuff

moving day

Hello to all of you who follow this blog. I do appreciate you. Just wanted to take a minute to let you know I’ve left Media Temple and moved my whole operation to new hosting.

Why did I do this? Well, one big reason and a few smaller ones. The big one is Media Temple was purchased by Go Daddy. I don’t like Go Daddy. Never have, never will. So, that’s a big “No” for me.

The smaller reasons have to do with use cases, cost and a bunch of other stuff I won’t bother to bore you with. Just know I didn’t make the decision lightly. It’s kinda a pain to move things, if I’m being honest. I wish I didn’t have to do it, but here we are.

So where did I move? I went to a hosting provider called Site Ground based on recommendations from several people, my own research, and more. I’m giving them the chance to keep my business. I hope I made the right choice. I think I did.

I guess we’ll see.

Cheers, all. Be kind to each other.

Note: No, I don’t know who those people in the photo are. I just grabbed this pic from a stock photo source. They look happy, though. That’s nice.

Things Are Different . . . But Also the Same

Some of you may have noticed, at least those of you who are paying attention, that the name of this site has changed. Well, if you came here looking for chrisword.com, then you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve taken the liberty of consolidating some of my websites to make things easier on, well, mostly me. However, it may make things easier on you too, I can’t be sure.

So, from now on if you type in chrisword.com you will end up here at chrisullrich.net. I think that has a better fell to it and I’m going to make chrisullrich.net my complete home on the interwebs.

I hope the change wasn’t too hard on all of you and I hope those of you reading this via RSS won’t get too confused. To summarize, chrisword.com is no more (except to redicrect you here).

All of my personal stuff will be here at chrisullrich.net. I hope that clears it up and I hope to see you around here often.
