What the hell is PalmOne thinking?

Treos

They finally offer the Treo 650 GSM Unlocked for a certain price. Then, two days later, they raise the price a hundred bucks and call it a “typo”!?

It’s hard to believe a company can be this dumb. They must think their customers are pretty dumb too. That’s not a good way to treat your customers. Good thing I ordered mine when it was the lower price. Sometimes it pays to be an early adopter.

I know, some of you may be shocked that I would consider changing from the Sony P910i. Don’t get me wrong, I love the device. I just want to try out the Treo 650 too. It does have several advantages over the Sony which I will get into once I actually have a unit on-hand to test.

Hear that PalmOne, ship the damn thing already!

Work is really, like, work

Working too much this week. Suffering under the heavy load. Hard to type. Be back soon. (if I survive)

Close Call

Story.1.Plane

We had a close call in our family today. Frank, my wife’s cousin’s husband (say that three times fast) was on the small plane that crashed in New Jersey today. He’s fine and so are the rest of the people on board. We got an email this morning from his mother recounting what he told her.

Apparently, after the crash, nobody could find the emergency exits because of the smoke and the floor lights that are supposed to show you the way, apparently didn’t work. Fortunately, he found the emergency exit, opened it and then helped people out of the plane, just before it burst info flames and burned. So, he’s pretty much a hero. Good job Frank. i knew I always liked you.

Eh? (aka: Canada to legalize same-sex marriages)

The Government of Canada introduced legislation today which would authorize same-sex marriage throughout the country. Same-sex marriage is already legal in the majority of provinces because of a series of court decisions (which all concluded that restricting marriage to opposite-sex couples is unconstitutional).

The Conservative Party, which is the Official Opposition in Parliament, strenuously opposes the legislation, This could make things difficult for the governing Liberal Party which does not hold a majority of the seats. Do they know something we don’t? My Liberal Canadian relatives won’t let me hear the end of this I’m sure.

Closer to home, it seems that I could be going to my local Aston Martin dealership in Van Nuys if I need my regular Starbucks fix but the line is too long at my store. Now isn’t that convenient. And, keeping the Starbucks flow going, ho many of you realize that when you drink that Frappuchino, you’re drinking three cheeseburgers worth of calories?

That doesn’t come as a surprise, right? (FYI: The Strawberry and Creme Frappuchino, venti sized with whipped cream has 770 calories, 19g of fat and 122g of sugar.) Want more bad news about the stuff you drink? Check it out.

Hey, I just go for the coffee. I’m not a Frappuchino guy. Now Pizza on the other hand . . .

New Powerbooks! (well, at least faster and better)

Powerbooks-1

No wonder my Powerbook order was “delayed”. Good gravy, new Powerbooks are here! Some specs: faster G4 (yes, no G5 yet) processors with speeds up to 1.67GHz, 8x SuperDrives, standard with 512MB of memory and a 5400-rpm hard disk drive up to 100GB in size. Not bad. I like the 12″ myself.

I (didn’t vote)

Story.Iraq.Just.Voted.Ap

But she did. And so did quite a few others it seems. Although, not without a fair share of problems. But still, people voted. Most, for the first time in their lives. Now, the counting begins. I wonder who will win?

And, this kid is screwed. The judge felt bad for him and only gave him 1 1/2 years in prison. I don’t know about you, but that still seems like a long time. I don’t ever want to spend even one hour in prison. I can’t imagine spending a year and a half. And really, look at him. He’s in trouble. Poor kid. It’s not like he’s some bad-ass, dangerous criminal or he killed anybody. He’s just some poor kid without any friends who was lonely and wanted a little attention. Give him a break.

Top 99 most desirable women of 2005

22 Kate Beckinsale

64 Heather Graham

1 Adriana Lima

Every year, this website does this. I have to question some of the choices but, as they say, to each his (or her) own. Physical appeal alone does not secure a spot in the Top 99. The women on the list are there because they possess a combination of looks, intelligence and personality that set them apart. Or at least that’s what it says on the website. I don’t know everything, but most of these women on the list (ok, all) are really good looking.

But i’m sure they are all really smart too. And funny.

And I thought I was a Star Wars fan (and other stuff)

Onthecouch-1

But this guy has me beat. Although, with the state of the Star Wars franchise these days (“Phantom Menace” anyone? Thought not), I’m not sure I would do this. Maybe for “The Empire Strikes Back”. Now that was a kick-ass movie.

And, regarding the deadly train wreck Wednesday here in LA (Glendale to be precise), the LA Times reports that the way that southbound commuter train was configured — a locomotive pushing passenger cars from the back, instead of pulling from the front — may have made matters worse. Not all engineers agree on this, however.

And, the Navy has posted some photos of the USS San Francisco, the submarine that went aground in the South Pacific where one sailor was killed. Amazing photos. Here’s a little background on the story as well.
