2012 Update: Balance and Taking More Photos

As I’ve said before, I don’t make resolutions. However, for 2012 I decided to at least make some decisions about how I’m going to do things and how I’m going to live my life.
So far, it’s going well. I’ve managed to be more productive and also managed to enjoy some quality time doing as little as possible. I’m well on the way to achieving that balance I was looking for.
Another thing I would like to do more of in 2012 is take photos. With the iPhone 4S it should be very easy. The camera is great and there are several apps that help to make the pics look cooler. One is Instagram, which is what the pic above is.
I highlighted some of those apps and some of my latest photos in an earlier post. Now that 2012 is here, I’m going to be doing more with these apps and trying to take a few photos each day.
I’ve done this experiment before (taking a photo a day for thirty days I mean) and it seemed to go well. I will try to make it last longer this time around. We’ll see how it goes.

Some New Pics, New iPhone 4 and Some Cool iPhone 4 Photo Apps
Posted on February 25, 2011I’ve recently returned from the land of Android (and the HTC Incredible) to the land of iPhone 4 and IOS. To be honest, it’s great to be back. Not that the Android platform isn’t cool, it is.
It’s just that the iPhone and iOS 4 are cooler. Case in point is all the great applications you can use to take some really cool photos with your iPhone 4.
I’ve been using quite a few of them and in particular Hipstamatic, Instagram, Plastic Bullet and Camera Bag. These apps, and the included Camera App from Apple on the iPhone, allow me to take and make some pretty cool photos. Sure, I can still take “normal” photos as well, but using these Apps is way more fun and the photos often turn out way different and better than you expect.
To demonstrate, I’ve included a few here from the new iPhone 4. Some are taken with Hipstamatic, some were taken with the iPhone’s native Photo App and then processed in Plastic Bullet or Camera Bag and some are just normal. Check ’em out.
As I get better at taking pics and discover more of what these Apps can do I will post some more here as well as the usual places like my Facebook and my Flickr.
Phoebe Cates Is Number One

How I didn’t see this before I’ll never know, but apparently the site Mr. Skin rated the all-time best nude scenes in movies and one of my favorite actresses of all time was number one. I’m talking about, of course, Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
To a young man such as myself, Cates represented all that was awesome about girls and helped start us on the way to manhood. I’m very happy that many others obviously share my enthusiasm for Cates. She truly is one of a kind and still looks great today (at 46), btw.
But here she is in her younger days in one of my favorite movies of all time. Also, keep in mind, this video is probably NSFW. Enjoy.

I’m Chris and I Approve of This
Posted on April 27, 2010I’ve seen a lot of movies over the years and many of them had one or more superheroes in them. Some of those superheroes were also women and probably looked pretty good in their costumes. However, I’m fairly certain none of them ever looked this good.

Moving on Up

Surfing In Malibu
Posted on September 8, 2008No, it wasn’t me surfing. It was professionals who know what they’re doing. Although, I did surf a bit when I was younger, but never really got very good at it. Also, I’ve tried it again a couple times recently and I’m still not very good at it. So again, I’ll leave it to the pros.
Fortunately, all I had to do at this event over the weekend was try to take some decent pictures. No surfing on my part required. Here’s a few taken during the MSA Classic event in Malibu this past weekend. It’s the 45th annual contest and one of the beneficiaries of the event was Heal the Bay. All in all, a great way to spend a Saturday.

Me, Me, Me
Posted on June 6, 2008Yes, its all about me. But seriously folks, this has been a very interesting week. I’ve met a lot of great people, been told my work both sucks and is brilliant and found a great artist I’m going to work with. So, as I said, a very interesting week indeed.
I also went to Book Expo America last weekend here in LA and I just have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I didn’t look around enough or spend enough time there, but it seemed like it wasn’t really the show for me. If I was a guy who owned a book store and was looking to buy books to fill it up, then it would have been a great show for me.
As I was just a lowly writer looking to meet some people (particularly in comics and graphic novel publishing) I was sorta out of luck. The few places that were there had booths staffed by people I already knew or featured companies where I already knew someone higher up the chain than the guy in the booth. So, from a practical “networking” standpoint, not much incentive to chat them up.
I did talk to a few people and they were cool. Still, I got the sense from some of them that even they were not exactly sure why they were there. Really, I think most people in comics and graphic novel publishing are just looking ahead to San Diego Comic-Con anyway. I know I am. That’s going to be a blast as usual.
In other Con news, I will most-likely be in Chicago for Wizard World later this month with ComicMix Managing Editor Rick Marshall, Editor-In-Chief Mike Gold and some of the other gang. That should be fun, especially as I’ve never been to Chicago before (I know) and am going to stay a few extra days to check out the city, eat the food and generally get into some trouble.
I’m really looking forward to that trip. If you happen to be in Chicago during that time, be sure to say “hello.”

The ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Women

Battlestar Galactica is a great show. It has exceptional writing, engaging stories, compelling characters, cool visuals, talented actors and directors and is just plain fun to watch. It also has some really great looking women on it — which doesn’t hurt either.
